Well, that was a much nicer week than the one before it!
Things are growing nicely in the hoophouses with all the sunshine we've had this past week, which is a plus given the otherwise cool fall we've had. For us, November 3rd is more than the presidential election, it's also the day we cross below 10 hours of daylight. We've got three more weeks of growth for the season and then we're stuck with what we've got until 10+ hour days and warmer weather return in February.
At this point, the weeds aren't growing, planting is finished and the fields need little upkeep, so we can shift our attention to getting ready for next season. We spent Friday and Saturday moving two smaller hoophouses from the old property and putting them back up. When we initially built them, we cut/bent all the tubing and drilled all the holes, so to say it was easier to build them this time is an understatement. We've got a little bit of finish up work on the frames and then we're onto building the bigger new one. This one is our priority as it will serve as the home for the chicken coop for the winter - and given winter is well on it's way to getting here, now sure seems like the time to get it done!
This will be the last week of deliveries for another group of you all this week, as we've made it to the end of the summer season deliveries. A big thanks again for joining us this season! When it's all wrapped up for the season, we'll have packed nearly 4,500 boxes for all of you, 2,000 more than last season. To say it's been a crazy season would be putting it lightly. Luckily, we had a great crew this season that helped us through it with minimal issues, despite it being the most challenging weather season that we've had to contend with yet. We're looking forward to regrouping and getting ready for a (hopefully) more normal season next year; though it won't be without it's share of pretty big changes, all of which we think you all will be pretty excited about, so we hope you'll all stay tuned!
Well, it's time to go get some more grapes picked so we can continue our winemaking trials. What are we going to do with 200 gallons of wine we can't legally sell? No idea yet, but there's only one way to get the experience we're after!
Have a good week!
