Last night we hosted our first CSA member potluck picnic. It was a blast! Though the weather turned chilly, we had around 30 people out to the farm to enjoy dinner around the campfire. The pizza crew cooked brick oven chicken for the group and we had quite the spread of other dishes: pumpkin and sage grits, deviled eggs, apple salad, rosemary shortbread cookies, and the list goes on and on. Our CSA members know how to cook!
The group swapped recipes, shared stories, and spent time getting to know each other. We couldn’t help but daydream about what this kind of event could look like in the future. As more and more people come to know about our farm and CSA program, we hope to have more opportunities to host events like this. You’ve heard us say it before, but it really is important to make a trip to see where your food is grown. When you join our farm share program, you’re not just signing up to get groceries--you are entering into a community. Events like last night’s potluck give all of us involved (farmers, farm staff, farm members) a chance to gather around the table (or campfire) and share in something that unites us...the love of good food! Thank you to everyone who made the trip out to enjoy an evening with us. And if you didn’t make it, rest assured that we’re already cooking up some ideas for next year!
