SOME LOGISTICS
PICKUP TIMES: Thurs or Fri, 9a-7pm (plus Saturdays til 5pm if necessary, as a backup plan)No need to sign up for a pickup time anymore. The SignupGenius was to initially spread everyone out, due to COVID. It worked. Keep your time or come another time that works for you.
HARVIE CUSTOMIZATION PERIOD ends Wednesdays at 7am, so do it Monday or Tuesday.
VACATION PLANS: Is anyone going on vacations these days? If so, you can Change the Dates of your pickups on Harvie in advance. If you get the Monday customization email, you can Hold Your Share to reschedule another time. Also, you can Donate your Share to the Food Bank, by changing the pickup location for the week to “Donate to the Food Bank” and we’ll do it!
FOOD BANK DONATIONS: Weekly we donate produce to the Frederick Food Bank, starting last week. Sarah McAleavy, the director of the Food Bank, gets so excited when our deliveries start in June! They have come to rely on us for a steady source of fresh (organic!) produce. From spring greens in early June to cases of sweet potatoes in late November, we deliver there routinely. We have a grant from The Common Market to donate one share to the Food Bank and another by a private donor. Some of you have also made contributions to our Food Bank shares and I thank you!
Would you like to help? You can order an Add-On on Harvie for the total you wish to contribute. We match all donations, so value is doubled or better. Ask me for a tax-deductible receipt. Our little farm community is making a difference by feeding people, together.

WHAT'S GROWING ON?
This week we had hot hot temps and flash flooding storms. Read my blog about how our raised beds make our gardens resilient from heavy rains so crops don’t drown. Isn’t it an adventure to grow food and eat seasonally? We were deep into the sweet succulent greens in May; some of the greens begin to wane by mid-June, to be replaced by zucchini, cucumbers and beans. We are watching for the first zucchinis now, which we anticipate this week. If you don’t get some in your share this week, we will certainly have enough for everyone next week. Don’t worry; once they start coming in, we can hardly pick them fast enough. We are waiting on cucumbers. Green beans are flowering, so it won’t be long. There are a few snap peas for U-Pick, just for a taste or two.
Curly Kale Massaged Salad
With clean hands, massage a dash or two of olive oil into washed and dried kale leaves. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and nutritional yeast flakes (optional).

BLACK LIVES MATTER
House in the Woods Farm supports the Black Lives Matter movement. Let’s work together to make sure there are human rights for all. The injustices have gone on for too long, but I am hopeful for the stirrings of change and the stand for justice. Please know that the farm is a safe space, and regardless of your race, religion and nationality, sexual orientation or gender, we want you to feel comfortable and welcome here.
