BUTTERNUT ARE READY
A sign of fall, the butternut squash. A versatile winter squash, butternuts can be roasted, boiled, grilled, baked. They can become a soup, cake, casserole, or stir fry. Cut one in half, bake at 350 til soft and eat with butter. Here is a favorite soup recipe, link in the plain text too. A Moosewood recipe, with a magic spice swirl. Substitute butternut instead of pumpkin.

WHAT'S GROWING ON
September is a seasonal transition on the farm, holding some of the summer goodness and slowly bringing on the fall crops. Peppers are often a summer holdout, with more ripened red peppers. Enjoy them, the mild and the hot. Missing the greens? We have some bok choy ready, in good shape but with tiny holes you can easily ignore if you are missing your greens. We are monitoring the sweet potatoes, which will be ready soon. They took extra time to grow this year. Watch for invites to help harvest the sweets! This week we begin harvesting butternut squash! U-PICK continues! Enjoy the U-Pick flower row and some cherry tomatoes in Candy Lane. Enjoy them while they last.
DIGGING THE SWEETS
Watch my notices for news of a sweet potato dig. We will try to invite you to help with the treasure hunt. We are balancing the timing of their readiness, the dampness of the soil for digging, and the timing to try to get them cured and ready before main season wraps up Sept 30.
