WE GOT RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you ever want to feel really, really, immeasurably and ecstatically good about the rain - try growing some plants. It'll give you a whole new perspective on rain. It will make you go out and dance under the thunderclouds.
I think our plants are grateful too. There was a lushness to things on our field walk today. There's only so much irrigation can do - nothing really compares to a good downpour.
Let's hope this rain puts a stop to the heat wave we and our amazing crew have been sweating through. Although I have to say our zucchinis and cucumbers are really loving this heat. If you're wanting to do some canning, you should consider buying some bulk amounts from us while the getting is good. Relish, pickles... 'tis the season! We'll be offering cucumbers by the lb to purchase as extras this week.
Get your pickle on! Offering bulk cukes by the lb.
We've got beets back this week, and scallions, and some really beautiful head lettuces. We've got the last of our sugar snap peas, in limited quantities; they don't like this heat so they're done a bit earlier than we anticipated. We'll be starting to harvest our garlic over the next week or two, and we'll have fresh garlic available every week now, and cured garlic once its cured. Keep the fresh garlic in the fridge for now! Our eggplants are beginning to produce more and more. We also have the first of our beans (a limited amount!) and the first of our tomatoes! We have some more cherry tomatoes this week as well.
Cherry tomatoes and tomatoes are just starting to come to maturity in the hoophouses. That means we have enough to harvest, but not enough to harvest for everyone. The idea is that as the season progresses they'll pick up and we'll have more available each week. At this point, whether you get them in your share depends on your preferences, and also what order the list of members is randomly placed in each week by Harvie. You can always tweak your preferences at any point to change how Harvie places veggies in your share. You might have kale and cherry tomatoes rated as a 5, because you love them both! But if you actually would prefer cherry tomatoes over kale, try lowering the kale rating. We can't guarantee you'll get them, but you can play around with the system a bit.
Well, it's off to another busy week of weeding, pruning tomatoes, trellising beans and cucumbers, getting beds ready for planting, planting lettuce and beans, seeding fall beets in the greenhouse, and harvesting. We look forward to seeing you at pick up!
Your farmers,
Kim and Alex
