Welcome to week 11 of the Farm Share! Now is your time to customize your share, lots to choose from again.
On The Farm
Wow, our plants really enjoyed the rain the last two weeks - but so did the weeds! We are in our final push to finish our fall plantings, all while harvesting tons of veg, pruning tomatoes, dispatching hornworms, and rescuing crops from weeds.
Our carrots in particular are just being swallowed by weeds. If you've been with us for awhile now you might know that we don't have the best relationship with carrots. The clay, the wet soil, the weeds, strange fungal diseases... There always seems to be something. This time we prepped the land in advance, let it sit for weeds to come up, then flame weeded it, then covered it with row cover to ensure even germination. But then the rain came and the weeds grew so, so fast. So we are now in rescue mode for our 1000 bed ft of carrots. Wish us luck!
Veggies Highlights
Giant Zucchini Sale!
Have you tried out our giant zucchinis? We're putting them on sale this week because we have a lot of them. It's one of the hazards of us going away, since we weren't around to pick them on the weekend and they have to be picked daily. They're great for processing - simply grate, bag, and freeze. Then you can add zucchini to pasta sauces, casseroles, soups, and baked goods in the winter.
Shishitos
If you want to try something new, add Shishito peppers to your share. They're so yummy fried in a pan with some oil and salt until blistered.
Processing Tomatoes
We have some tomato seconds that are great for processing. They're not romas, so a bit watery for sauce but excellent for roasting or salsa making.
Enjoy your veggies!
