Welcome to week 8 of the Farm Share!
It's time to customize your share! Friends, we have a lot of good stuff this week so go take a peek! Tons of tomatoes now too!
Of note this week - BEANS are brand new, lots of cucumbers this week, and the first of our peppers are here including shishitos and jalapenos.
Don't forget to return your green bag!
On The Farm
The "second spring" of July is totally here - meaning the crazy amount of things that have to be done! We still have garlic to get out of the field, we have lots to harvest, fall plantings are still happening and the weeds mean business this time of year.
But at the same time the field is so abundant with produce and beauty.
Also we try our best to have fun. We're really lucky to have an amazing crew of people who come and do this wild work with us.
Pictured here is Jonathon, Dean, Tristan, and Sarah.
Veggie Highlights
Beans are available this week! This is a time of year we both await and dread. It's because we love beans but they take so gosh darn long to pick. It's one of those labour of love things. We hope you enjoy them. p.s. the purple ones will turn green when cooked
Cucumbers are now going crazy! If you get a big one, peel the skin off because it can be tough. Inside it's just pure sweet crunchy juicy goodness.
Peppers are starting out! This week we have some jalapenos, shishitos, and gypsy peppers. Gypsy peppers are yellow but taste more like a green pepper. They will get sweeter when they ripen to red and orange. Shishito peppers are a frying pepper from Japan, scroll down for a recipe.
Blistered Shishito Peppers
I like to tell everyone to try this recipe because it is just... so good. It's a quick, tasty appetizer that you can impress your friends with. And the Farm Share gives you the chance to try out new things, right? That's part of the fun!
Here's the full recipe for the detail-oriented: https://cookieandkate.com/blistered-shishito-peppers-recipe/
I will include my cliff notes here:
1. Toss shishito peppers in some oil.
2. Heat up a pan til hot.
3. Toss in the shishito peppers. Let them sit for a bit before stirring around. They will spark and bubble and pop and make noises.
4. Let them fry until they start getting brown spots on them. You can stir them around now and then and flip them. About 10 minutes.
5. Toss in salt. Optional: add a squeeze of lemon.
6. Eat them just like that!
We hope you enjoy your veggies! Please don't hesitate to email at mulberrymoonfarm@gmail.com or text me at 519-719-7253 with any feedback or questions at any time. :)

Kim
