We have the first of our fall popcorn available this week! Making our own popcorn has always been a favorite snack in our family. The kernels are pretty easy to pop off of the cob with your finger tips (once you get the first couple out of the way it's much easier to get your fingers in to work the rest of them out). My method for making an even batch without burning any is as follows:
- Pour a high-heat oil in the largest pot you have (I use non-GMO canola oil or coconut oil)
- Add a couple of kernels to the pot and put over high heat
- Once the test kernels pop, pour in the rest (I use 1/4 cup of loose kernels for 2-4 adults)
- Cover pot with the lid cracked to let steam out
- Continue to cook, shaking occasionally, until pops are 5+ seconds apart
- Remove from heat, remove lid, and season to your liking. My favorite is butter, salt, and ground hot pepper flakes
