Farm Training in Action

Posted on January 25th, 2021 by Annie Moore

As our season gets up and running, we wanted to highlight our training activities on the farm. Your participation in our farm share has enabled us to hire and train three full-time apprentices who are learning every aspect of vegetable farming that we can throw at them. We think it's critical for the strength of our local food system that more experienced growers pass on their knowledge to others who are seeking to grow food for themselves and their community. There is a general lack of training opportunities in this region, and so we've created our own apprenticeship program in which apprentices learn on the job, attend presentations and workshops, and visit other farms in the region to see methods employed by other growers. Our apprentices rotate through managing our Tuesday and Saturday on-farm pick-ups, so many of you will have a chance to meet them through the course of the season.

This week's share is looking leafy and delicious. Compostella Farm's baby greens are back in full swing, and we've got lots of great roots and cooking greens for you. Mycelium Express oyster mushrooms are back too, and our extras section is stocked with Local Cooling eggs, VEGGI tofu, Too Tall Farm fresh turmeric and ginger, and L'Hoste organic grapefruits. We're still waiting for confirmation that we can get strawberries for you, so please check back tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks for being a valued member of our farm share!

PS - Don't forget to bring your own bags for your veggies!
