Welcome to the First Week of CSA Season!

Posted on May 10th, 2024 by Lynne Schultz

Greetings from Schultz Valley Farms! ?

We're thrilled to announce that it's officially the first week of CSA season, and we couldn't be more excited to kick things off with a bounty of fresh, nutrient-packed veggies! ???

Josh and I have been working tirelessly behind the scenes, preparing the fields, tending to the crops, and ensuring that everything is in tip-top shape for the start of our CSA deliveries. It's been a labor of love, but seeing the vibrant colors of our harvest and knowing that it will soon make its way to your table makes it all worth it. ?

As we embark on this new season together, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support. Your commitment to local agriculture not only sustains our farm but also strengthens our community and promotes a healthier, more sustainable food system for all. ?

Before we dive into the excitement of our first CSA delivery, we have a few housekeeping items to share:

1. **Delivery Details:** Please ensure that your delivery spot is correct to ensure a smooth delivery process. Home deliveries will be on Tuesdays, while drop-offs at various locations will be on Wednesdays.

- **Tuesday Home Deliveries:** Deliveries will be made between 11am to 6pm .

- **FMC Parking Lot:** Tuesday from 3:00 to 4:30 PM. Look for the grey car located by the second shift parking lot, near the loading dock.

- **Keller Market House:** Wednesday from noon to 5:30 PM. Your bags will be located on a wall on the new side of the market.

- **Preston Family Farms:** Wednesday pickup at their farm store. Your bags will be readily available for collection.

- **On-Farm Pickup:** Wednesday pickup at our farm. Please pull up to the top driveway and knock on the door. Sadie or Michael will be there to assist you in retrieving your bag.

2. **Highlight: Asparagus!** This week, we're shining a spotlight on our freshly harvested asparagus. Here are a few tips on how to store and prepare it:

- **Storage:** To maintain freshness, store asparagus upright in a glass of water in the refrigerator. Alternatively, wrap the ends in a damp paper towel and place them in a plastic bag in the crisper drawer.

- **Preparation:** Before cooking, snap off the tough ends of the asparagus spears. You can also peel the thicker stalks if desired.

3. **Recipe Ideas:** Here are five delicious ways to enjoy your asparagus:

- Asparagus and Mushroom Risotto
- Grilled Asparagus with Lemon and Parmesan
- Asparagus and Goat Cheese Tart
- Asparagus and Prosciutto Wrapped Bundles
- Asparagus Pesto Pasta

We hope these suggestions inspire you to get creative in the kitchen and make the most of your fresh produce!

Thank you once again for being part of our CSA family. Your support means the world to us, and we're honored to be your farmers.

Wishing you a season filled with abundance, health, and delicious meals!

Warm regards,

Josh and Lynne
