Welcome to the First Week of CSA Season!

Posted on May 15th, 2024 by Lynne Schultz

Dear valued CSA members,

Greetings from the farm! We're thrilled to announce that the eagerly awaited CSA season is finally here. Are you ready for a delightful array of fresh veggies to brighten up your meals?

Josh and I have been hard at work preparing for what promises to be an amazing season ahead. Alongside farm duties, we've been cheering on our kids' achievements. We're bursting with pride as Sadie recently concluded her basketball season and represented us at the State track meet, where she finished an impressive 6th in the mile!

Now, onto the veggies! To pick up your CSA basket, simply meet us at our booth and provide your name. At the Lancaster Farmers Market, you can find us closest to Chesnut Street. For the Dublin market, locate us at the corner of Longshore and Larimer, where our booth boasts green tents.

This week, let's shine the spotlight on asparagus. Here are some tips on how to store and prepare it:

- **Storage**: Place the asparagus spears upright in a glass of water, similar to a bouquet of flowers. Store them in the refrigerator, and they should stay fresh for up to a week.

- **Preparation**: Snap off the tough ends of the asparagus spears by bending them until they break naturally. You can also peel the thicker stalks if desired.

Now, let's get creative in the kitchen! Here are five recipe ideas to make the most of your fresh asparagus:

1. **Grilled Asparagus**: Toss asparagus spears in olive oil, salt, and pepper, then grill until tender and slightly charred.
2. **Asparagus Risotto**: Add chopped asparagus to your favorite risotto recipe for a delicious and vibrant twist.
3. **Asparagus and Goat Cheese Frittata**: Whip up a frittata with sautéed asparagus and creamy goat cheese for a delightful brunch option.
4. **Asparagus Pasta**: Combine blanched asparagus with pasta, lemon zest, Parmesan cheese, and a splash of pasta water for a quick and flavorful meal.
5. **Asparagus Soup**: Blend cooked asparagus with broth, onions, garlic, and a touch of cream for a silky-smooth and comforting soup.

We can't wait to see you at the market and hear all about your culinary adventures with our farm-fresh produce. Here's to a fantastic start to the CSA season!

Warm regards,

Your Farmers,
Josh and Lynne
