Posted on September 27th, 2021 by Ayla Dodge

Hello Members!

This is the last week of the main season! The weather has been terrific for fall harvests and this week is going to be a nice last box.  If you are getting a fall share, you will either get a box next week or the week after depending on if you are a half or full share.  Please email if you have any questions about this.

We have apples for sale again this week from my mother-in-law's farm.  We picked them this weekend with the kiddos and they love climbing the trees! The regents are sweet and a little larger. The Harolsons are tarter and crisp and a little smaller.

Here is what might be in your box this week:

Celeriac (celery root)- These are also sometimes called celery root.  They are not the actual roots of a celery plant, but like beets and chard, they are in the same family and are very similar.  They need to be peel (cut the outer part off) and then diced to be put into soup base or stock. They keep for a long time and are very flavorful!

Celeriac with walnuts and thyme

Root Vegetables ( sub with what you have!) Gratin
Brussels Sprouts- We did not have the yield we hoped for this year so you are getting.78 lbs insead of 1 lb each.  THese are so yummy when cooked until carmelized with fat of your choice.  Keep in a conainer or plasic bag. chop ned off and the outer leaves will fall off too.

Leeks- Potato Leek soup with fried herb gremolata

Peppers- still coming along! We will pull the ones from he field next week but fall shares should see peppers for a least one or 2 boxes.

Salad Turnips- So sweet and crunchy!  Use the greens chopped into a soup or braised.  Roast the turnips with your brussels sprouts!

Spinach-At long last a nice big bag of fresh spinach for you!  This stuff is beautiful!

Herb Bunch (thyme, oregano, sage)- great for soups!!- We like top give you a mix of herbs this time of year as there are so many options for culinary herbs like this in roasts, soups, veggies etc. Thyme (little leaves, oregano lobed leaves, sage large leaves).  You can hang upside down to dry or put in a little water in the fridge to keep for a while.

Butternut/acorn squash- Butternut is one of our favorites.  SO creamy!

Risotto with Butternut squash and leeks

Broccoli- full shares- Nice beautiful heads!  Some of them are huge!  Fall broccoli is THE BEST!

Pac Choi- Great for a quick stir fry with rice.

Pac choi stir fried

Potatoes- Small kennebed potatoes.  These are supposed to be big!  But instead they are cute and small. These are washed, but we recommend you wash again. and keep in a pantry or bag out of sunlight or they turn green.

Beets- Beautiful beet bunches for you.  Some of these are huge and you only got one or 2 in the bunch!

Roased Beet Risotto (such a pretty color)

onions yellow storage

popcorn (half shares)- This is popcorn for real!  It needs to dry down on the cob for at least 1-2 months.  Use as decoration and then take off cob and use in a air popper or on teh stove old school for popcorn!  We use it all the time and you will need a thick bottomed pan for it not to burn!

Apple Picking!!

Thank you so much for a wonderful season! We hope you have enjoyed the bounty from our farm and hope to see you next year!

Ayla, James, Ronia, Edwin and Willem
