Hello and welcome to the fall share CSA 2021!
Wow, this fall is shaping up to be really beautiful, warm and abundant! The fall crops are still growing at a good clip because the nights have been so warm. It is hard to figure out how to fit all the things in we want to over the next 4 weeks! That is a good problem to have as a CSA farmer! This weather is also very nice to work in- no complaints here!
Here is what you might find in your box this week:
Peppers- Some may be a little green, but mostly red or orange.
Potatoes- Reds- 2.5 lbs for ya. These are cured and ready to eat or store in paper bag for down the road. Great for soups!
Broccoli- nice fall heads!
Green Cabbage- These will store well in the fridge. Just take off the outer layers that have gone soft when ready to use.
Rainbow carrots- bagged 1.5 lbs- These are more of a cooking/roasting carrots. They are a bit more tough and get a LOT sweeter after you cook them. Great for you!!!
Kale, curly- I am the reluctant kale giver. I know it is an easy crop to grow and its easy to give over give it as its a good box filler and its great for you. But I also know a lot of folks do not like it that much! But here it is for you and I hope you can find a good use for it! You can really hide it well if you chop into tiny bits and out into mashed potatoes or any other dish, really.
Celeriac (celery root great for soups, stock, mirepoix base)- A great addition or substitute for celery in a soup base, or cooked with potatoes or in a had or mash or casserole. Stores really well in the fridge for months. Chop the outer skin off first!
