Long Days, Warm Nights

Welcome to the 2021 growing season!  In our weekly farm happenings this season, we will keep you up-to-date on important details and fun facts about the farm. Please take a couple minutes to read through these happenings when they arrive in your inbox so that you don't miss out on anything!  Folks who are getting a box every other week may consider reading the Farm Happenings from the alternate weeks in order to be completely up-to-date on all the info coming down the pipe from the farm.

With summer solstice right around the corner we find ourselves filling the long hours of light out in our fields, with our hands in the soil doing the work of helping food grow. The abundance of light and the warm temperatures do most of the work really; we are here to add water and tend.  And tend, we do!  Thanks to a dedicated crew, food is beginning to roll out of the fields in bins and bunches on its way to being washed, bagged and delivered to your table, tasty and fresh:-)

With temps soaring into the 90's, we've had to step up our irrigation game to ensure that all the tender young plants survive and can continue to thrive.  Farmer Mat has gotten creative with header tubes, drip tape, sprinkler heads and hose fittings, as he expands the current reach and effectiveness of the irrigation system.  Who knew we would need to irrigate all spring long?  Onions, like the ones pictured above, would struggle to grow without sufficient water.  Thankfully, our well and thousands of feet of waterlines are helping us get the job done.  Perhaps it's time for a rain dance or two!!

And now, onto some important business:

We have an adjustment to make this coming week with regard to one of our local pick up sites.  Due to a recent change in ownership, Mugs Coffee Shop in Ripon has reduced its hours.   At this time, we are waiting to find out what the cafe's new hours will be, so for this week at least, we need to ask our Mugs drop site members to pick up at the farm instead.  I realize this is an inconvenience, and we want to make sure that we get your produce to you.  If you are unable to do this we can make arrangements to deliver to your home.   We are hoping that we will be able to continue using Mugs as our Ripon drop site, so we ask for your patience and understanding while we work out the details with the new owners in the next couple of weeks.  We will reach out to individual members who will be affected by this change to confirm this week's pick up location at the farm.

Interested in further customizing your next box??  Every Saturday night (or every other) you will receive an email from the farm telling you what is planned for your upcoming share.  At that time you can make changes to your share by clicking the "Swap Items" button in the email.  From there, you can add more items (plus sign) or swap items for items not already in your share (two arrows) or remove items from your share (trash icon).  This swapping screen takes a little getting used to and is explained in great detail in the Harvie University Article: How Extras and Swaps Work.  I highly recommend checking it out if you are having any questions with the process.  If you have not already set preferences for your share deliveries, please do so now that you can make the most out of your options.  Need more info on how to do this?  https://harvie.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360021794754-How-do-preferences-work-

For those of you who prefer to be surprised, feel free to leave your preferences blank and you will receive whatever it is we are harvesting on a given week.

The fruits of early summer are ours to enjoy.  Cheers!
