New Faces at the Farm

Posted on June 29th, 2024 by Danielle Boerson

Summer is now in full swing, and that means we need all hands on deck to reap what we've sown!  This season we have the solid foundation of our loyal and hardy crew (thanks to Travis, Scott, Mat, Tracy, Henry, Ed, Karen, Ken, Jan and Shep!). In addition, we have 3 new crew members on board and we are excited to be working with Becky, Miles and Levi.  All 3 have passed the carrot test, which involves copious amounts of digging, bunching and washing...no one has run away screaming yet, so it looks like we'll be set for many weeks of carrot harvest!

Speaking of carrots, if you're fan of this sweet and crunchy root, you may have wondered at some point why the bunches vary between small and slender and big and chonky? The answer is the same for many crops that we succession plant, and it has to do with the timing.  When we start out harvesting a new bed of carrots (or mini romaine, or scallions), we harvest smaller versions of the crop.  As the days and weeks pass, the carrots size up and so do the volume of the bunches.  There are benefits to be enjoyed at all stages, so we embrace eating in season and cook accordingly.  I like to think it keeps us flexible and adventurous...and this we know is good for the brain!

So eat your veggies and expand your mind.  The crew at Boerson Farm will keep the good stuff coming!

Be well,

Danielle
