Building Something

Posted on October 5th, 2024 by Danielle Boerson

Plans for a new high tunnel are finally moving into action!  We've been anticipating the additional covered space for our crops for over a year now and are at last laying the groundwork for a 4th tunnel.   An additional growing tunnel will enhance our ability to meet the demand for high quality greens in the winter.  It will also set the stage for a more consistent supply of peppers, tomatoes and lettuce during the summer months.   With a 4th tunnel, we will have the flexibility to rotate the crops more regularly and cover crop some of the growing beds every season.  Cover cropping promotes soil health, which in turn promotes plant health, which is passed onto us when we partake in the fruits and leaves of the plants.  This last tunnel will hopefully be completed by the end of the year.  If all goes well, we'll be seeding carrots and arugula into newly formed beds in February.

And speaking of next year, this is normally the part of the season when we reach out to initiate the process of auto renew so that you have the chance to get signed up for next season.  As it turns out, we recently learned that in spite of offering a successful CSA platform, Harvie will be closing their doors at the end of 2024.  As a result, we will need to change to a new software platform and modify our system.  This presents us with a great opportunity to streamline the business and improve our customers' online experience.  You will still have access to the food through a CSA program, but it will look a little different than it currently does.  We are in the process of selecting a new ecommerce site and will be in touch after the CSA season ends to let you know when 2025 shares will be coming online.  In the meantime, please enjoy all the beautiful food that is coming your way.  It has been an abundant season, so we encourage you to pause and take stock of all the great meals you've likely made or eaten!  So much goodness.  And to think...there's still more to come!
