CSA GOES THROUGH NOV 7-9

As you plan your fall calendar, know that CSA continues through autumn, ending the week of November 7. You can use any held or rescheduled pickups through that date. Looking forward to sharing all the delicious crops of fall with you!

GRILLIN AND CHILLIN

Have you been grilling your CSA share? Here are some ideas for prepping your CSA veggies for the grill, to accompany your favorite proteins: Marinate sliced eggplant rounds in plenty of olive oil and spices. Cut patty pan the same way, so you have thick rounds that won’t fall through the grill. Slice zucchini into long strips. Try turnips as well. Onions and potatoes can be cut in rounds too! If you have a grill basket (highly recommend!), you can cut vegs into chunks and toss everything together with olive oil and spices. Enjoy your grill!

WHAT'S GROWING ON

Another seasonal transition comes as we welcome September next week. Tomatoes have dropped off the harvest list, ending a long stretch of production, since they started off strong before July 4. We grow them early! If you love tomatoes, seek solace in the Cherry Tomato U-Pick row for a bit longer. We are trying a fall crop of U-Pick snap peas! Watch as they grow and cheer them on. We are harvesting another round of cucumbers and summer squash! Arugula and salad turnips this week! We have a wide variety of fall crops in the works, we’ll see what flourishes in the transition of the seasons.

THANK YOU TO OUR SUMMER INTERNS!

As our summer interns head back to college, help us give Sarah, Julia and Ana a big thank you! They added such joy and creativity to the farm, as they learned all about organic vegetable production and community outreach. They presented a tomato tasting to the Frederick Senior Center and helped kids dig potatoes on the farm. Best to you in school!
