Week 10 has arrived - our half-way point! What a journey we've been through so far... thanks for taking the journey with us :)
Our beans are ready! Yesterday, we cooked up our first quart by parboiling them, then pan-frying them with garlic and lemon juice. This was soooo good. With another two beds well on their way, and two more beds just planted, we should have beans for a while to come. Elsewhere in the field, beets are done for the week, but we'll have more again next week. This week we'll finish up our carrot bed, and in another week or two our next carrot bed will be ready. Spinach is sprouting, as well as a new planting of peas (an experiment for the fall). Kohlrabi is a few weeks away!
Napa cabbage is a new item we have this week. The heads are small, so we've bunched a few together. These mild, slightly sweet leaves can be eaten raw or cooked. Try them in a salad, or stirfry, or create a quick kimchi.
Our 12-year-old nephew, Tristan, is the young guy in the picture. He's here for Farm Camp for the week! He'll be weeding, harvesting, building, and planting right alongside us this week. As I write this, he is outside watering our newly planted spinach, and helping Alex install some shelving (finally!) in our packhouse.
Well, that's it for this week! Happy eating!
