We are so honored to be growing food for you this season and excited to strengthen our relationships with all of you. Being able to offer some customization to our members is a new feature this year (made possible by the innovative folks at harvie.farm) and we are looking forward to embarking on this new adventure with you.
Every week you will get an email with some info about products you might find in your share (depending on your preferences) as well as a brief update on what’s happening back here on the farm. So, without further ado! Our first farm happening:
This week has been so chilly it’s hard to believe the harvest season is here, but the crops are letting us know otherwise! And so, with lettuce and radishes bursting out of the soil, we begin our harvests.
There are lots of greens in your share this week. The miracle of spring crops is that they are packed with nutrients and minerals useful for the body’s spring cleansing process. Much needed after a long winter of eating starchy and sugary storage crops (oh, and bread and cookies and so much rice...).
To get the most nutrients out of your spring veggies, try them raw or cooked long and slow in broth. Your body will know what to do!
Of course, culinarily, there are many ways to prepare and enjoy these delicious veggies. Bok Choy flash fried in butter, roasted hakurei turnips, cheesy broccolini..... Need we say more?? Should you find yourself wanting more veggie inspiration, though, Harvie include recipes and cooking ideas (look at the bottom of your emails) based on what we grew and harvested for you that week. You can also peruse the recipe page on our website.
In addition to Spring greens, were excited to include in your first share, a Spring Pantry treat from our neighbors at Nash's Organic Produce. You'll receive a bag of their flour grown and stone-milled right here in the Dungeness Valley! You can always swap this out, but we hope you and/or your friends and family get to enjoy this flavorful flour. We're really excited to help promote a local grain economy here in Washington!
Please send your veggie creations our way through photos or notes - we can't wait to see all the wonderful things you make this season.
From your farmers, with gratitude,
Anna, Noah and the River Run crew
