Week 18-- Full Season Farmshare -- River Run Farm

Posted on October 31st, 2024 by Anna Bunk
Happy November, Farmshare Members!

We've got three weeks left to go in the Full Season Farmshare. This season is extended approximately two weeks longer than last season's and there are PLENTY of veggies left to harvest!

The frost this morning was significant while we were packing the boxes. When the sun rose, we had an amazing view of Klanhane Ridge with fresh snow lit up in the morning sun (that kind of thing when the sun rises but the angle is still below the clouds and there's a great pink alpenglow!).

I've got a Crew Profile interview this week with our Farmer's Markets and More manager, Joe Noel. He's been with us several seasons now and is a critical part of our coordination over on the Seattle side. He drives the big box truck over for the weekend farmer's markets in Seattle, stays over at Noah's Aunt's place (thanks, Liz!). He helps so much with our logistics which can be super complicated depending on how many vehicles/boxes/pallets etc are needing to move this way or that.  Thanks, Joe, really!

Here's his interview:

1. Name: "Joe Noel".

2. Where are you from? How did that place shape you?  "I am originally from Kansas. Being from the midwest definitely shaped my work ethic, politeness, and very much my appreciation for stark geographic features that Kansas is not especially known for."

3. What was your first impression of Sequim?  "My first impression of Sequim was thinking it would be a really nice, beautiful place to live while residing in Chicago at the time."

4. What drew you to farming?  "I've always had a deep appreciation for eating veggies that I have grown. My grandfather farmed throughout his retirement/my childhood. As I had lots of respect for him, I saw farming as a formidable set of skills and knowledge that was a priceless thing to learn. My appreciation for agriculture has grown increasingly over the past decade+ living in the PNW."

5. Favorite vegetable crop at River Run?  "It is too difficult to pick one! My favorite vegetables at River Run are brussels sprouts, delicata squash, and hakurei turnips."

6. Favorite number? And why?  "Oddly enough, I have never had a favorite or "lucky" number. Math and science are super interesting to me, patterns and sequences appeal most."

7. Do you have a super power? What is it?  "My superpower is greatly uninteresting, yet pragmatic at times. I can estimate space and volume very accurately. Being efficient in regard to the use of space I would call it i guess."

8. Please share a life lesson learned.   "Working at the farm for a few seasons now has greatly reinforced a belief that the only thing I know is how much I don't know."

That's great! Thanks, Joe!

Ok folks, time to customize!
