Greetings Farmshare members!
This past week’s weather has been so unusually chilly, we are starting to get concerned about some of our hot-weather crops. In our climate, since there is no hope for a reliably warm June, we rely on warm weather in July and Augusts in order to grow crops such as cucumbers and squash. These crops are currently struggling along through these cooler, foggy maritime days, waiting until their break. Our fingers are crossed- we love snacking on cucumbers!
New this week: the collards are on. Enjoy these like you would prepare other leafy greens or try a simple farm favorite- collards chopped and cooked down in stock (veggie or meat) until almost a mush. Add a dash of spice and salt- delish!
Also, in your share you may find a swirling, whirling, psychedelic Romanesco (shown in photo). These grow like cauliflower, taste a bit like broccoli, look like... well, Romanesco. Enjoy exploring the ultimate Fibonacci vegetable!
