Hi folks,
This week is our final week to access irrigation water. Every year, on September 15 or earlier if the Dungeness River water level is low, we no longer are able to utilize the community irrigation ditch (now piped underground) in order to maintain enough water in the Dungeness for the upcoming salmon runs. So we've busy; moving irrigation pipe around the farm to get a last watering for the veggie crops and the recently sown winter cover crops.
Despite the poor air quality due to smoke, harvest carries on. The crew is out there with upgraded face coverings (now wearing masks with respirators) and working fast to get the crops out of the fields and washed so they can get some relief indoors. The crew morale is impressively high!
In other news we are opening up sign ups for a Fall Farmshare (the last 7 weeks of the farmshare program: Sept 30- Nov 11). So now when your neighbors are drooling over your weekly produce delivery you can let them know that they too can enjoy a share of their own! We are working to update our website but until then, have your interested friends and neighbors send Elena or I an email at farmshare@riverrun.farm.
Be well!
Anna
