Hello Farmshare Members,
Welcome to week 8 of the farmshare! As we begin the first week of August, some activities on the farm are winding down while others are continuing to increase. Last week we did our last big transplanting of fall and overwintering brassicas. We'll continue to transplant our quick growing crops like lettuce, but the bulk of our big transplanting season is coming to a close. Our propagation green houses that only a few weeks ago were full to bursting, have slimed down to only a few tables of starts. LOTS of gratitude to Hannah, our seeding whiz. Hannah does the majority of the plant start seeding on the farm. Thousands of seeds pass through her hands before growing into baby plants to be transplanted in the field!
Meanwhile harvest continues to amp up! We've added beets, broccoli, zucchini and some beautiful fresh onions to the harvest list. AND we harvested the garlic! The garlic harvest is always a fun project. Since it is a crop that we plant and harvest once per season, it always feels a bit special. We pull the whole plant in the field, shake most of the dirt off the roots and then bring them into a shady, well ventilated space to cure. You can look forward to garlic in your box sometime in the coming weeks. Until then, we'll have some fresh Walla Walla onions to fill that savory niche.
Enjoy!
