Greeting from the farm,
I hope everyone is keeping cool. We are surviving here too. Although it is hot we are still working on getting things caught up around the farm. We are trying to finsh up 1st cutting hay this week with this dry spell that we are having. If we can finsh hay this week the next thing on the list is starting the high tunnel. We also have a few other things that need caught up planting this week. But the goal is to have everything caught up for once on planting, we will see if we get that done.
We just sent our first set of chickens to the butcher shop this week. It was long day we started the day out 5:00 in the morning and drove 2 hours away to our processor. On a side note, Josh let me deliver the chicken all by myself so I made my first solo trip with our truck and trailer. 134 chickens in total I delivered so we will have chicken on the store here in a few weeks, plus we have hog and cow coming back from the butcher shop here soon so meat will be stocked up here on the store soon. Thanks for everyone that answer our question about how you like to see them processed. We ended up get some whole, over half cut up some with split breast so those looking for bone in breast, we did some done with boneless thighs as well, and had some ground and made into sausage.
On the produce side, our blueberries are starting to get ripe so there are a some available this week. Also new this week we have cabbage and a few new herbs. Over all crops are looking good as long as they make it through this heat wave and we stop getting two inches of rain at time. The large amount of rain has been the hardest part, it makes it challenging for us to get the field to cultivate hence if you drive by the farm you might see a lot of weeds in some area due to us not being able to get in the fields to weed. But it is what it is and we are making it work.
So hope everyone stays cool this week,
The Schultz Family
