Farm Happenings for July 28, 2021

Peter keeping the cukes growing straight up

This week's offerings:  Hot days here again, speeding up some crops (like the cucumbers, as in picture!), though water getting to be limiting factor for others.  (Fortunately, all greenhouse crops are easily irrigated, like the tomatoes and basil!)  Lettuce and salad mix are not as dependable with the hot temps; by labeling them 'Salad mix or lettuce' gives us a little flexibility to find something decent!  Everyone who likes tomatoes should get at least a couple this week, along with some cherry tomatoes.  New crop:  yellow onions.  We did have enough celery to do one last week for you; next celery crop would be in the late fall!

Coming soon: We are already catching raccoons and opossums snacking on the sweet corn.  Looks like we may have some ready next week!  (I mean corn, not raccoons!)  There will be just a smattering of peppers for the foreseeable future.  The plants are not yet fully loaded, though they do like the summer heat!  Potatoes look real good at this point; we'll send a picture soon!

Summer blueberries a no-go:  Better Way Farms has had some trouble with their soft fruit, so probably can't supply us with organic blueberries.  At least we should have the frozen blueberries in November from our usual supplier Pleasant Hill Farms!

Have a good week, and stay cool!
