The high heat these days, along with some much-needed rain, are bringing on lots of tomatoes and green beans. We have lots of Galahad tomatoes, which are firm, round red tomatoes. We've been pleased with their sweet flavor. We also have a good amount of Amish Paste tomatoes—large, meaty tomatoes that are great for sandwiches as well as sauces. And we also have a variety of colors of heirloom tomatoes: Cherokee Purple (dusky purple-pink), Aunt Ruby's German Green (light green with pink stripes, Ron's favorite!), Pineapple (yellow with pink stripes), Brandywine and Italian Sweet (pink-red beefsteaks), and Green Zebra (small, pale green with dark green stripes and a zingy flavor). We invite you to try a new tomato this week!
New this week are Blush and Cortland onions. It's been a good year for onions, as well; they seem to like the dry heat. Also on the list this week are beets, carrots, cherry tomatoes, summer squash, sweet peppers, and kale, among other offerings. It's definitely the time of garden abundance!
