We’ve had so much rain in the past three weeks (10 inches!) that the gardens seem to be permanently soggy. The tomatoes and raspberries are slow to ripen because they need sunshine. And the onions were beginning to rot and had to be harvested early to dry under cover.
One crop that’s doing well is beets. They don’t seem to mind the rain. We have plenty of beets on the farm stand this week, and a lot of new potatoes (which Ron has to dig in between rains). We also have green onions, cucumbers, kale, garlic, flower bouquets, a limited amount of green and wax beans, sweet peppers, zucchini and fresh herbs. Plus our own jam, eggs and grass-fed beef, and local honey. Let's hope for a lot of sunshine this week!
