I'm not sure what to say about what's happening on the farm these days! It always seems the same: harvesting and more harvesting. We also seeded garlic for next year and are working on mulching it with straw to keep it warm over the winter. Before we know it, though, our sameness will radically shift, and we will be harvesting our root crops for storage and then we all know what happens after that...winter! But let's not get ahead of ourselves! This is our second last box of the year. We have decided not to create a fall Farm Box this year, primarily because we have had a poor yield on several of our root crops again due to the wet earlier in the season. We are disappointed about this, as we would have loved to continue. After Oct.3, the date of our last box, you can find us at the Old Strathcona Farmers' Market each Saturday from 8-3. For those of you that are deterred by lineups or crowds, the lineups, when they exist, move efficiently, and the traffic inside is well-managed and not congested. We look forward to filling your boxes these next two weeks, though!
p.s. a word about preferences: with the shift in seasons, your vegetable preferences may be shifting (maybe you're more excited about beets or parsnips than lettuce at this time of year for instance). You can modify your preferences on your Harvie profile page for the last box if this is the case. We think it's worth reviewing, anyway!
