Today a photographer came to the farm with an aerial photo of our farm from earlier this summer for sale. It's something he does every three years. Seeing our farm from that perspective was a sobering reminder of the challenges that we've faced here this year. Our fields have taken a beating from the high water table of the past two years; we see this in the soil's hardness, in the weed pressure we are facing and in crops that haven't ripened. You folks get the best of the fields and the things that have worked out, and we are very glad that there's been enough of that! But, every spare moment we have we are reading, watching Youtube, listening to podcasts, and visiting other farms to discover how to improve our resiliency against excess moisture in the future. We are learning so much, and we have become energized by the potential of our farm to become more resilient. We bought the photograph, and we are looking forward to buying the next one in three years time to see how things look different.
We are excited about offering some new items this week: celeriac, sunchoke and parsnip, root crops to satisfy our cold weather cravings, as well as some delicious herbs. If your box has something unfamiliar in it, we encourage you to give it a try and see if you like it! Enjoy, friends!
