Week 11 of 12

Good Evening!

What a delightful fall it has been so far! Sunny bright skies and temperate weather make for comfortable harvesting. We brought in a bunch of our winter squash today, and have been working on bringing in our potatoes for storage. We have many crops in the field that we consider to be summer veggies that need to be picked regularly. Usually we say goodbye to those crops in early September, but they are still coming in. For instance, we have beans, zucchini, lettuce and tomatoes for you this week along with our more autumnal vegetables. This means that it is a bit more challenging to get to the storage crops, but with our well-staffed farm and fair weather, we will chip away at it all.

No-Till Update

We have added minerals and amendments to our soil based on several soil tests, plant-sap analyses, and the recommendations of experts; we've decided that this is an important step before we create our permanent beds and are glad to have been able to take the time to work on this. Everything is ready to go now (we think!) to build the beds, but we need to finalize a few details such as exact bed size and management of pathways. We've discussed several different approaches for both of these, and it comes down to making a decision and then just trying it out! Kind of scary when the beds are meant to be permanent!

Fall Farm Share

We have a meeting to launch our fall farm share tomorrow morning, and as soon as it is ready, we will send you all an email. You will have the opportunity to get in on the fall shares before we make it available for intake to the general public.

The share will be delivered every two weeks through October and November. Each box will be a $45 value for a total of $225. We will feature primarily root veggies as well as some winter squash, dried herbs and our famous pickles and jam. You will have the opportunity to swap items and add extras as always. We are limiting our deliveries to three locations: Uproot Food Collective, Strathcona Farmers' Market and our farm near Gibbons. Pick up will be on Saturdays. We know that these may be limiting factors for some of you. We will also have fewer shares available than in our summer season and are selling them on a first come, first served basis, so if you are keen to purchase a share, please keep an eye on your inbox for the intake notice.

We will be in touch soon!

Warmly,

James and Jenny
