We had a really exciting Saturday! Around 11:30am a large water main on 4th Street burst open sending tons of water down Court Street while the Farmers' Market was happening! We heard someone yell get your stuff up, water is coming. This isn't that uncommon to hear at Market as sometimes a vendor will dump out a cooler full of water in the street and we just need to get our sandbag weights up off the ground. We looked around and didn't see any water coming so I walked up to the corner of 3rd and Court (we are one booth South of this corner) and didn't see anything. Then I looked further up Court toward 4th and saw water rushing down towards us! All the vendors worked together around us and fortunately nothing got wrecked! See the photo taken from our booth!!!
After a quicker than planned tear down for market Kate and I went to the Hinterland Music festival to sell veggies. We got invited to come because many of the campers were looking for fresh veggies to grill and we also provided produce to some of the food vendors (like Mo' Rub)! It was a very fun time but needless to say it was a very long day.
This week we are preparing the site for the arrival of our new walk-in cooler. Our old one is still working just fine but is on it's last leg. With the arrival of the new cooler we will now be able to have coolers set at different temperatures to ensure optimal storage conditions for different types of veggies/fruit. This will help us to have storage crops available throughout the winter and will be a very nice addition to the farm!
Hard to believe but we are doing some of the last seedings in the greenhouse for the 2018 field planting season! Seems like just yesterday the season was starting and now we are at week 9 of deliveries! We will still be doing transplanting and seeding through October for the high tunnels though!
