One of these week's I (Farmer Ben) hope to be bored just doing the Farm work but I don't think it's going to happen this season ; ). Last week one of our Farm Crew members was admitted to the ER for a potential hernia (not from any Farm related activities!), on Monday evening. It sounds like it is still unclear whether they had a hernia or what but they are now out for the season! On Thursday we had a Farm Crew/Family campout at Jester Park and it was a lot of fun! Early Friday morning one of the Farm Crew Members' daughter (8 y/o) had a mild seizure and we called 911. The ambulance showed up and she has been in and out of the hospital all weekend. It sounds like the medical staff has finally figured out what is "wrong" with her and hopefully she will have a speedy recovery. I've been talking with his daughter and she is "unstoppable" but this has been a very traumatic experience for her and I hope y'all will keep her in your thoughts this week!
I try and not share too much of the negative things that are going on at the Farm as I am a very positive person and know there is almost nothing we can't overcome to bring you your shares every week but after the little one (whom I am very close too) had a seizure, actually 2 over the course of 24 hours, felt I had to share what is going on! This season has been full of a lot of struggles for us like the well pump going out twice, late season frosts, staffing issues, etc but we are still persevering to make this the best season we possible can!
On a positive note we getting all caught up on field plantings and the crops are looking good! Despite all the obstacles of this year we are entering into every day with a positive attitude and a GREAT sense of humor. The Sugar Snaps peas are finally starting to produce and while we don't have enough for everyone yet (hopefully we will soon!) we may sneak them into some Shares this week! We also now have T-shirts and Reusable Tote Bags available (shown in the Featured Photo above) printed by an old friend of mine (Farmer Ben) in Marion, Iowa. The t-shirts are $20 each for S-Xl and $25 each for 2X and 3X (all adult sizes). The Reusable tote bags are $20. If you'd like to order please respond to this email and we can pack them with your Share this week.
Have a great week,
Farmer Ben and the Crew
