It definitely feels like Fall now! At the beginning of last week it was still pretty warm and humid but towards the end we were starting to wear stocking caps and gloves in the mornings. The tomatoes are starting to slow (as are the Sweet/Hot Peppers and Eggplant) but I think we are still going to be able to get one last week of harvests from them. Towards the end of this week (like Friday and/or Saturday) we are going to get a low temp right around 32 degrees which will be the end of them for this year if it happens. So, on Friday if any of you would like to come out and glean what you (Farm Share members ONLY so please don't tell your friends) can from the tomatoes, peppers and eggplant field you are welcome to. Please just send me an email to let me know.
As the Summer Crops are really starting to fade the Fall/Winter Crops are really starting to come in! If you follow the Farm on Social Media you've already seen that the Winter Squash harvests have begun! This week if any of you have a preference on receiving Delicata or Acorn Winter Squash with your shares please send me an email and we will do our best to accommodate!
This has been a very challenging growing season (weather-wise)! The wetness of the Spring and the Hot Temperatures of late August/September really kept some crops from being available that would have in a "normal" season (does that even exist anymore : ) ?) but, I feel like the Share Choices this year were better than ever before all things considered. I'm not planning on sending out an "official" end of season survey but please feel free to send me an email letting me know your thoughts on the season and how your experience could be improved! You all are a very important part of the Farm's success and I really want to hear your feedback!
There is only one more week, after this one, of Regular Season Shares. It seems like just last week we were packing the first boxes of the Season! For those of you Half Shares that this is your last week please return any Share Boxes you've got laying around and bring bags to transfer your bounty into and leave the box. Also many thanks for you being a part of the Farm this Season!!!
Until next week,
Farmer Ben and the Crew
