Getting out to the field with the little boys to observe the farm crew was a welcome change from the afternoons spent in the hospital for the last ten days.
Farmer Reuben just told me in passing that our first two rows of sweet potatoes yielded 3000 lbs already. Ten more to go!
Eating sweet potatoes is a yummy treat for animals too. Voles and mice like to burrow underground and munch on the tubers from below. Deer use their hooves to tear holes in the protective black plastic in order to dig the potatoes up for their own eating enjoyment.
This harvest escaped damage from those pests though and we will have many to send out in our Farm Share CSA boxes in the coming weeks.
There will be plenty of sweet potatoes for the last weeks of your summer CSA share. The rest of our sweet potatoes will be participating in our brand new cooperative Winter CSA.
Our fall shares will actually be winter shares this year. October - February, members of the winter share will receive every other week deliveries of winter vegetables. These shares will NOT be customizable because of limited varieties available.
You might be interested if:
- you love every vegetable including, parsnips and turnips.
- you love the challenge of cooking what the farmer chooses for your box.
- you appreciate the premium value of local vegetables.
Please be patient while we get our sign up page ready. Current year Farm Share CSA members will be notified as soon as we open sales of these shares.
We'll keep farming for you!
