Harvesting: Sweet Potatoes, Romaine Lettuce, Carrots, Butternut Squash, Eggplant, Okra, Yellow Onions, Sweet colored Peppers, mixed Hot Peppers, Garlic, Red Potatoes, Parsley. NEW: Sweet potatoes are finally ready and we will spend many hours digging them out of the ground. Carrots are a very valuable crop. Read more in our Friday Farm News Email this week. Lettuce returns after the heat of the summer cools down. Butternut Squash should often be roasted whole and can be used to substitute for pumpkin.
Farm News: It poured on the harvest crew! Blaise re-appeared at the house just after leaving for the field. He was soaked to the skin and looking for a jacket. Just as they were beginning to dig carrots, it began to rain heavily. It didn't last long but with a little breeze and no sun, I guess he got chilled. Carrots are Gold! You wouldn't believe how much work it is to succeed at growing carrots for you. Carrots are a very labor intensive crop that isn’t always successful on our farm because we don’t spray chemicals for weed control. Read more here.

WINTER SQUASH STORAGE reminders:
- Winter squash is best stored at room temperature. It can be damaged at temps under 50 F!
- It's so pretty it makes a nice decoration until you are ready to eat it!
- Delicata and acorn squashes are short-term storage only, and should be eaten within 1-4 weeks.
- Best way to keep squash? Clean off all dirt and wipe squash down with a rag soaked in vinegar to remove spoilage organisms. Keep them in a spot where you can check periodically. Any soft spots? Time to use!
