It is really important that our farm family gets a day of rest on Sundays. This takes various forms: sometimes a nap in the afternoon and a visit with the farm grandparents, sometimes a walk on the country roads, or a date with good friends.
This weekend our family enjoyed a long afternoon of visiting and games, picnic style, with friends who are also Farm Share CSA members. It was delightful to be treated to a wonderful meal using primarily food from our farm: Fried chicken, corn on the cob, thick slices of tomato, coleslaw, fermented radish and cucumber pickles, herbed green beans and slices of sweet watermelon. It is especially good to get off the farm for a day because it makes it easier to not think of everything that will need be done the next day.
First thing Monday morning we made a plan for the week regarding everything that needs to be picked. We have sweet corn again and the farm family is going to eat corn on the cob for supper in addition to cutting and freezing a bunch for the winter. Tomatoes will be canned for the winter this week as well. And every night we will have wonderful salads, cooked veggies and various fermented vegetable pickles.
Enjoy your veggies this week! We are!
We'll keep farming for you!
