Here’s a pic of our flats of spinach, ready to be planted this week. We have entered the Persephone period, in which daylength is less than 10 hours. This time period will extend until mid-February. During this period, plant growth is very slow. We still do plantings, but we anticipate that growth will be delayed until the sun begins to swing back around.
You may notice that some of our high tunnel green things such as salad mix and arugula are not as available this week. It’s just that time of year. We are hoping to have mix and kale back for the final pickup on December 19. We still have lots of cabbage, carrots and other crunchy storage items.
Some of you have been asking about sales after December. We are still deciding how to move forward. Depending on our growth cycle January can either be a plentiful month or a scarce month for freshly harvested produce. The Land Connection is still deciding if they are going to host a post December farmer’s market, and we would coordinate dates with that. Typically we go down to a twice a month harvest schedule in the winter anyway. So, stay tuned for updates on how to get Blue Moon veggies after December.
For those of you who come inside the mall for pickup, let us know how the system of tables worked last week. We are trying to make it easier and easier for you to grab your own box. Any feedback is good to help us know how it’s working. Our email, as always answered by Lorien, is bluemoonfarmurbana@gmail.com. (Still haven’t figured out how to get rid of Jon’s name on the email, even though he has nothing to do with it!)
Thanks to everyone for your continued support of Blue Moon.
