The farm is slowly shifting from summer to fall. We harvested the first bit of Italian Broccoli this week and our first kohlrabi of the fall season. We are also starting our big winter squash harvest. At our farm, we grow 3 winter squash varieties, butternut, acorn, and the sweet and popular delicata squash. Soon we will be flooded with sweet broccoli, napa cabbage and our watermelon radishes. I have been busy canning and freezing tomatoes and peppers. Always, in the bounty of summer, try and preserve as much as we can so we don't have to go without tomatoes and peppers. Who wants to buy tasteless summer veggies in the store during winter? It's my first year pressure canning and I have made quarts of sauce as well as roasted cherry and roma tomatoes. Next up is diced and quartered tomatoes for the canner this weekend! If you like to preserve your food via canning or freezing, consider purchasing one of our red or heirloom 2nds tomatoes boxes in the store. They contain 20# of tomatoes!

About the farm
At Blue Moon Farm, our goal is simple: Produce the most beautiful, best tasting produce possible using only organic methods. Our 20-acre organic vegetable farm located 10 miles north of Champaign-Urbana grows quality produce for Urbana's farmer's market, grocery stores, our CSA, and local restaurants. We are committed to the collective project of implementing farming practices that promote the health and well-being of the land we grow on and the people who eat our food. Buying locally leads to more accountability between the farmer and the eater and that relationship is important to us.
