Kids and carrots go together well. A recent visit to the farm by newly appointed Big Sister Elliot Avery reminded me just how cool it is when kids interact with vegetables. She knew the names of all the veggies in her CSA share, and she let me know that the carrots were her special favorite. I can relate. I find myself munching and crunching on them all the time and enjoying their uncanny earthy sweetness. Okay, so they may not be quite as sweet as candy, but pretty darn close for a vegetable. They are certainly better for the body!
This week we continue to harvest roots, shoots, fruits and leaves, and we are all awaiting the magical moment when the cherry tomatoes move from blush to ripe. Then, we'll really be talking sweet! If you happen to like cherry tomatoes, you'll be happy to learn that we are growing 4 varieties this season and have upped the number of plants to ensure abundance for all. So far, with the help of our crew, the plants are looking exceptional. There are massive clusters of green cherries just waiting for their moment to turn to shades of red, orange, yellow and purple...soon!
We hope you are enjoying all the food that the season has to offer. And to think, we're still just getting started!
Bon appetite :-)
