Fall is nearly upon us. Hard to believe that the scene is shifting from green to orange, but here we are already harvesting Shep's pumpkins with Halloween appearing on the horizon. This week temps are forecast to drop from the 80's to the 60's...a change that some people welcome and others lament. So long as we don't slide off into the cold zone too quickly, we certainly don't mind a break from the heat here at the farm. Field work feels lighter without a layer of sweat between us and our clothes! Cooler temps will bring about a change in the crops though, so enjoy those heat loving fruits and veggies while they last! Soon we'll be onto the squash, purple potatoes and rainbow carrots, but not before we take in the last of the tomatoes, peppers and eggplant.
If you pick your share up at the farm we encourage you to check out Shep's selection of homegrown pumpkins and wooden Jack o lanterns. Thanks to our good friend Ed, Shep has an offering of hand made wooden Jack o lanterns in addition to his harvest of orange, yellow and white decorative pumpkins. These little beauties are perfect for fall decor and front porches. Sales from the Jack o lanterns will be donated to the GL Area Animal Shelter.
Oh, and in case you were wondering how much CSA we still have ahead of us, we will continue delivering shares until the end of October. If you receive an every other week box you can expect a total of 3 more boxes including this week's. Every week folks have a total of 6 more boxes. In the meantime, enjoy the upcoming equinox with the help of your farm fresh fruits and veggies. Cheers!
