Travis and the Tomatoes

Posted on August 3rd, 2024 by Danielle Boerson

For years I've joked with the crew about having a farm band, making a music video, and giving ourselves stage names that are inspired by vegetables.  No one every really takes me seriously, but hey, a girl can dream!  When you spend a lot of time working outside in the heat surrounded by things like tomatoes, eggplants and carrots, the mind comes up with all sorts of goofy ideas.  Now that it's tomato season again, the references are returning. And this year, the tomatoes are OFF THE CHARTS!  The colors, shapes, flavors and contrast are second to none, and this is good since we've been doubling down on our growing system.  Tomatoes require attention to detail and special care in order to produce a consistent, marketable harvest.  It's so satisfying when the crop is beautiful and the yields abundant!

We are putting together some gorgeous mixes of our heirloom and hybrid slicers for you.  These are varieties that we've been selecting over many seasons and we are excited to be able to share them with our members.  Even if you don't like eating tomatoes, they make a terrific still life on the kitchen counter.  (Half of the pleasure I derive from tomatoes is simply from looking at them).   But I digress...Travis and the Tomatoes could be the name of our farm band, but really it just refers to our hard core crew and the special food-producing work that we do.  Maybe one day I will be able to produce that music video, but in the meantime, we will continue growing tomatoes with gusto and love.
