The weather at the farm this week has definitely confirmed the arrival of fall. Frosty mornings, thick with mist; blustery afternoons, like out of the Hundred Acre Wood; and brilliantly sunny days that still persist, illuminating the changing leaves. Field work is winding down, but there was still plenty to do. Next season’s garlic has been planted with care. Another round of carrots has been harvested – they’re big and great for long term storage, and will nourish us throughout the winter. As a member of livestock crew, I was very happy to get our newest beef order put away. I feel proud for the hard work we’ve put into raising our animals, and am so excited to share our product with members of our community (to order meat, please visit http://blogs.dickinson.edu/farm/meatsales !). Though the colder weather inches closer daily, we’re working hard to maintain our delicious vegetables and raise our happy animals in preparation for the winter ahead.
