Happy Monday!
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and and I hope yall are keeping warm too! One of the toughest parts of vegetable farming is the cold fingers on harvest mornings in December. Harvest is done now and we are turning our focus to indoor tasks for the rest of the day.
With the exception of brussels sprouts, we are done cutting fresh products from outside for the year. We have some fresh greens available from our unheated greenhouses, but the rest of the offerings come from our storage coolers.
Pictured: Our neatly organized equipment shed! I always say of farms "dirt and chaos happen, we just need to make time to clean up and put away occasionally." We put in that time over the past few months in the equipment shed, clearing away some old inventory and under used equipment, and then putting back everything neatly. On the far right, you can see one of our Allis Chalmers Garden tractors. We use that to clean up the ground around our direct seeded crops like spinach and lettuce mix. We converted it to electric a few years ago and it is charged by those solar panels on the roof. Getting that system back up and running was another big win this fall.
Have a great week and stay warm!
