Farm Happenings for November 10, 2020

Posted on November 6th, 2020 by Will Nelson
It’s so strange to be writing my last entry for field notes! As I near the end of my time here at the farm, I have been reflecting on my first entry back in May in which I mused about the boundless potential of making radical choices in life (i.e. committing to a 6-month farming apprenticeship despite having little background experience), as well as the delightfully challenge-ful adjustment to the new lifestyle that is farming. 5 and a half months later, saddled with some uncertainty about the future and a life lesson in living seasonally, I am tuning into the world around me to find a newfound solace in Fall. With the help of a few philosophers but mostly thoughtful friends/ sages, I have been appreciating autumn for its life-affirming qualities of growth and renewal in response to the many different events of closure happening in my life. John Muir said it well: “Although the dying time, it is also the color time, the time when faith in the steadfastness of Nature is surest… The seeds all have next summer in them, some of them thousands of summers.”

Thanks to all of you for being a part of this incredibly impactful time for me and more importantly, for committing to an important movement that recognizes sustainably grown food as everything: as a tool for re-educating folks on our relationship with nature and each other, a delicious vehicle to bring people together, and a right that we are all fighting for every day. Let us continue to stay nourished and take care of one another!

In love and light, Joyce
