We began to say our goodbyes to the apprentices this week, as Paige plans to depart this weekend. We celebrated the completion of the apprenticeship and end of the semester with an outdoor get together among students, staff, and apprentices. It was a very heartfelt event, many a goodbye was said and some tears were shed! Before leaving, us apprentices were excited to be part of a welding and wood shop class with Matt, and have already started using these skills to rebuild their garden fences at the yurts. Also this week, we worked on clearing invasive plants like tree of heaven and the fence lines around livestock pastures. We made more charcoal, chopped more wood, and harvested A LOT of carrots. A lot, as in 3 rows over 200 feet long; we expect to harvest several thousand pounds by the time we finish getting them out of the ground next week. Come visit apprentices Joyce and Claire for their last Wednesday market this upcoming week! It may be chilly, but we promise it’ll rain less than it did this Wednesday :)
