Friday CSA: Dickinson College Farm Field Notes for Week of September 16th

Don't Want A Good Thing to End?!

We invite CSA members not already signed up for the "CSA Fall Extension" option of our 2019 season to consider the opportunity to extend their weekly supply of fresh vegetables from the Dickinson College Farm! The CSA extension runs six additional weeks (November thru mid-December). Our friends at Harvie have an auto-renew function for CSA programs like ours that offer "extension" options for CSA shares. With this in mind, please note these important details.

Harvie will auto-renew CSA members not currently signed up for the additional six weeks on October 22nd.
Payment method is the same as the member used on the first order. Members can update what payment option they'd like to use for the extension. My Profile--Edit Profile--Choose new payment option--Save. If credit card information has changed, please update in the Harvie system.
Members can change their place of pick up for the extended season if desired. Otherwise, it will remain the same. To change place of pick up, Go to "My Deliveries".
Members who do not want to be enrolled in the Fall extension MUST opt out of auto renew. Members can do this thru their Harvie account before October 22nd. Go to My Profile --Edit Profile -- toggle off Auto renew --Save.
If you already signed up for the CSA extension season, no need to do anything!

Field Notes:

This week's weather on the farm couldn't quite make up its mind - is it summer, or maybe fall? Monday had us ready to pull out our fleeces, but Wednesday had the team sweating once again. We can't complain, however, as we're reaping the benefits of both season's crops: from cool fall-loving spinach and kale, to warm-weather tomatoes and sweet corn. Peppers are still going strong, and kale is back in full force. In the coming weeks we're looking ahead to more brassicas to harvest including broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and brussel sprouts.

Our team has also been looking ahead to next season already, too, and this week we transplanted strawberry plants in preparation for next spring. After a lackluster strawberry season this year, we're aiming for strawberry shortcakes galore come next June!We're also busy prepping vegetable beds and setting up irrigation in our new greenhouse, and are excited to be able to extend our greens harvests this fall with the help of some added greenhouse veggie real estate.

We've been pleased to welcome a handful of Dickinson classes to the farm this past week, as well, and look forward to a great autumn season full of farm visits, events and big harvests.

Make A Reservations for the September GATHER Dinner on Saturday, the 21st!

Pick-Your-Own Flowers Are STILL in Season!

Our pick your own flowers season is winding down at the farm. Our focus now for flower beds is seed saving. You are welcome to peruse the flower beds for a bouquet while blooms last!
