Don't Want A Good Thing to End?!
We invite CSA members not already signed up for the "CSA Fall Extension" option of our 2019 season to consider the opportunity to extend their weekly supply of fresh vegetables from the Dickinson College Farm!
The CSA extension runs six additional weeks (November thru mid-December). Our Harvie system is set up to automatically renew for our "Fall Extension". With this in mind, please note these important details.
- Harvie will auto-renew CSA members not currently signed up for the additional six weeks on October 22nd.
- Payment method is the same as the member used on the first order. Members can update what payment option they'd like to use for the extension. My Profile--Edit Profile--Choose new payment option--Save. If credit card information has changed, please update in the Harvie system.
- Members can change their place of pick up for the extended season if desired. Otherwise, it will remain the same. To change place of pick up, Go to "My Deliveries".
- Members who do not want to be enrolled in the Fall extension MUST opt out of auto renew. Members can do this thru their Harvie account before October 22nd. Go to My Profile --Edit Profile -- toggle off Auto renew --Save.
- If you already signed up for the CSA extension season, no need to do anything!
Please contact farm@dickinson.edu with any questions.
Field Notes:
Along with the official arrival of Fall this week, cool-weather crops are anxiously awaiting their harvest. We have so much kale that we don’t know what to do with it, and it feels like we just began harvesting it again! We also began picking broccoli and we harvested all of the celeriac Monday. The change in weather forced us to say goodbye to our zucchini and summer squash plants this week, and the last tomato harvest is coming up. Make and preserve tomato sauce while you can! The swim team volunteered on Saturday and helped process hundreds of pounds of garlic and weed several vegetable fields. Garlic processing is a top priority this week, for we must distribute garlic for those who have ordered it as seed soon. We also need to plant our own garlic crop for next year soon. Our hands are blistered and sore from trimming off the dried greens and roots, so it was a relief to have so many extra hands to help out! Other jobs this week have included transplanting lettuce into the greenhouse for later Fall, weeding the greenhouses, and seeding cover crops for the off-season to protect the fields. Thursday morning was a race against the clock to harvest and wash a massive order by the Dining Hall for homecoming weekend, while the afternoon was spent packing boxes for Friday’s CSA and processing garlic. We hope you are enjoying the early Fall crops!
Warmly,
Vanessa, first-year apprentice
