Another hot and sticky July week embraced the Dickinson College Farm team. Despite the high humidity and sweltering temperatures, we have managed to accomplish many goals, including harvesting fresh vegetables for our CSA shares. Our carrot season is in full swing and from the number of CSA members requesting carrots in their share, we gather that others are enjoying them as much as we are. Other summer favorites like summer squash, zucchini, and cucumbers are making their debut which means that tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and okra are right around the corner!! Speaking of new crops to harvest, this year's garlic crop is telling us it is time to pick. With just under half an acre planted to garlic, the long wait is almost over. Planted in October, garlic truly takes its time to mature. Once harvested, the garlic will be bunched and hung in our barn to cure for 4-6 weeks. This way, those beautiful bulbs will last longer. We hope that you continue to enjoy the bounties from the fields and pastures at the College Farm. We have an amazing team of staff, students, volunteers, and apprentices who are working together to navigate the joys and challenges of growing food for others. I feel so lucky to be a part of it!
