How’d it get to be November? Coulda sworn that yesterday was mid September. Sure felt like it too, with the afternoons in the mid 60s I found myself in shorts and a t shirt by the afternoon. It’s hard to complain but the unseasonably warm weather is slightly alarming from a farmers perspective on climate change impacting seasonal patterns. And I will complain for a moment in regards to cold morning harvests: cutting spinach and salad mix in the frigid and wet mornings doesn’t feel great on the fingers. It does do something for the circulation though, and with most of the season behind us and dark mornings it is nice to have something cold to wake me up and get me going. Plus the frost does fantastic things to some of the vegetables. Spinach is tender and mild, lettuce slows and bulks up, and boy of boy did we harvest some of the sweetest, crisp-ist carrots I’ve ever tried. Truly, truly delightful.
