Hello Dickinson College Farm CSA Members,
At long last, the 2023 CSA season is upon us! My name is Alex Smith and I took over as the vegetable farmer this winter. We were sad bid Will Nelson farewell, but he and I worked closely for some time in the winter to ensure a smooth transition and continued delivery of quality, organic produce.
A little about me: I am a Baltimore native and I graduated from Dickinson in 2010 with an environmental studies degree. I served as an apprentice here at the College Farm in 2010 and 2011. Since then I have worked for a number of other well respected farms in the region and ran my own successful agriculture enterprise in for 5 years. My wife Courtney, my son George and I moved on to the farm this spring; and last week, we welcomed our second son, Leo, into the world right here on the farm. We also adopted an energetic farm puppy, Nina. She and Pepe are already best friends. We are all tremendously excited to be a part of the Dickinson College Community and I am eager to serve it with beautiful vegetables.
The semester students, other farm staff, and I have been working hard this spring to set the ground work (pun intended) for a great year. We carefully selected enthusiastic and talented apprentices and summer student workers from competitive applicant pools. We are confident that we are primed for a productive summer.
Please enjoy this weeks bounty and I hope to meet you all at some point! If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at smithro@dickinson.edu.
Sincerely,
Alex Smith
